Through use of two novel resorcin[4]arene-based carboxylic acids, [Ni2(H4L1)(teta)2]·3H2O (1), [Ni(H6L1)(teta)]·0.5C2H5OH·2H2O (2), [Cu(H6L1)(teta)]·3.5H2O (3), [Ni(cyclam)(OH)2]·2H8L1·C2H5OH·4H2O (4), [Cu(cyclam)Cl2]·2H8L1·3C2H5OH (5), [Cu2(L2)(cyclam)2]·2H2O (6) [Mn2(L2)(H2O)3]·2DMF·5H2O (7) and [(CH3)2NH2][Cd3(L2)(HL2)(DMF)2 (H2O)3]·DMF·5H2O (8) (H8L1 = 2,8,14,20-tetra-ethyl-4,10,16,22-tetrakis((3,5-dicarboxybenzyl)oxy)-6,12,18,24-tetra-methoxy-resorcin[4]arene, H4L2 = 2,8,14,20-tetra-ethyl-4,10,16,22-tetrakis((3-carboxybenzyl)oxy)-6,12,18,24-tetra-methoxy-resorcin[4]arene, teta = 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetra decane and cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) have been synthesized. Compounds 1 and 6 exhibit infinite ribbons. 2 and 3 are isomorphous and produce chain structures. Isostructural 4 and 5 show unique mononuclear structures. Hydrogen-bonding interactions further link 1–5 to form three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structures, respectively. 7 gives a layer structure produced by tetranuclear Mn(II) clusters. 8 yields a 3D framework. UV–Vis spectra were studied for all compounds. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility of 1 has been investigated. The luminescent property of 8 has also been studied.Eight coordination polymers (CPs) based on two new resorcin[4]arene-functionalized carboxylic acids and Ni(II), Cu(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II) ions have been constructed. The CPs exhibit various mononuclear, 1D, 2D or 3D structures. 8 displays a strong fluorescent emission in solid state at room temperature.Download high-res image (207KB)Download full-size image
